    Recognized by the National Register of Historic Areas, the Denver Mountains Parks was established in 1909. Today is contains 31 parks, encompassing lakes, streams, mountains and more. Many of the parks contains hiking trails, fishing opportunities, picnic areas, grills and other recreational areas, while protecting area plants and animals.

    Lookout Mountain Nature Center

    Encompassing the historic Boettcher House in this 110-acre park, the Lookout Mountain Nature Center offers a variety of services to visitors. Programs are available for all ages of people, as well as numerous nature trails, some linking to nearby Apex and Windy Saddle parks and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave. The center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

    Plains Conservation Center

    The Plains Convservation Center is a monument to early days of Colorado, from Native American habitation to pioneer days. Thousands of acres of untouched prairie serves as a wildlife habitat, and numerous displays on 19th century lifestyles are located on site.

    Armory Building
    Constructed in 1913, Golden's Armory remains one of the largest cobblestone buildings in the United States. It is estimated that 3,000 wagon loads of cannonball-sized stones were brought from Clear Creek and the Golden Gate Canyon to build the structure.

    Four Mile Historic Park

    Four Mile Historic Park is an historic preservation and interpretive center that sits on 12 acres of rural land. The site houses Denver's oldest home, Four Mile House, and 19th century barns. The site is open for group tours with activities like gold panning available.

    Twelfth Street Historical District
    Take a walk through Golden's Twelfth Street Historical District and see homes built as early as 1850. Markers are on hand to highlight the historic importance of many of the structures. The district runs down 12th Street between Elm and Arapahoe streets.

    Pearce-McAllister Cottage

    The Pearce-McAllister Cottage was built in 1899 in the style of Dutch Colonial cottages in the eastern United States. In addition to the 1920s decor, visitors can explore the exhibits from the cottages current manager, the Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys.

    Eisenhower Suite at Fitzsimons

    Eisenhower Suite at Fitzsimons is the unit that President Dwight D. Eisenhower lived in for two months while recovering from a heart attack. Today the room has been restored to show the evolutions of cardiology and welcomes tours on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3:30pm.
