Sand Creek Regional Greenway is a 14 mi (22 km) pathway that connects Aurora with Commerce City. More than 50 mi (80 km) of additional trail systems wind their way through the area, welcoming people to run, bike, horseback ride and walk through the northern section of Metro Denver.

As the largest contiguous open space in the Metro Denver area, this wildlife refuge is one of the largest such urban refuges in the country. The refuge protects eagles, deer, coyotes, owls and other species from urban sprawl and development. Guided trolley tours of the park are available.
